GECKO - Kids Activity Zone

Visit GECKO, the kids’ activity zone for fun, interactive, educational activities that help children get in touch with nature!

Garden State GreenFest, a PlanetHugger Event, is free for kids and teens 17 years and under and makes a fun and educational day out. Our mission is simple: to educate, inspire, and motivate young folks to change the world, in small ways and big: whether by reducing their environmental footprint, becoming better earth stewards, advocating for environmental issues or growing up to work in a green field.

Upcycle craft activities
Should you really throw that away? One person’s trash can be another persons bowl, jewelry, gift box, bird feeder and more. You’ll be amazed at what you will learn in our Upcycling Center!

Consumerism by-products such as packaging materials, plastics bags, boxes, clothing, jars and plastic bottles make excellent supplies for creative minds. Diverting “useless” materials from landfills by upcycling them for a higher purpose, like junk mail bowls and wine cork trivets, is fun and good for the planet by reducing your carbon footprint. Come and scope out our upcycled projects in the Upcycling Crafts Corner for ideas and inspiration as to how you can reuse your own refuse.

Musical Performance by Kathy Byers and Lydia Adams Davis
Lydia and Kathy’s interactive concert engages life-like animal puppets such as the raccoon, beaver, polar bear, bumble bee, snake, frog, and turtle to share their passion for wildlife of all kinds. Kids of all ages will have so much fun they may not even notice how much they’re learning!

Lydia Adams Davis of Cornwall on Hudson, New York and Kathy Byers of Chatham, New Jersey have co-written and released a new, educational, environmental music CD entitled: One Earth So Green and Round. Produced by guitarist and composer John Guth, the background instrumental mix ranges from piano, guitar and percussion to banjo and clarinet. The CD includes a lyric booklet. Lyrics can also be found on their website.
